The shelter is located in Testrup Gl. Skole, which is located right by the Ancient Road and is part of the association Herberger along the Ancient Road. The building has been completely restored, and the hostel has 11 beds, a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower. Outdoors there are 2 shelters, toilet, shower, kitchen, fire pit and playground.
Testrup is located in a beautiful landscape on the Ancient Road's hiking route between Aars and Aalestrup. If you go south, the bridge over Lerkenfeldt Å tells you that you are in Testrup. After passing a small forest area in Testrupgård's forest, Testrup Church appears.
Testrup church has a very exciting history. In the early 1400s, the Viborg bishop had his main farm Testrupgaard in the area. He decided to build a large cruciform church with a tower instead of the small ashlar church that stood on the site. To the west of the church, a hospital was also built, which was not only for the sick, poor and old, but also for the hikers who passed by on the nearby Hærvej. Here they could come in and have a meal and spend the night. It is probably also around this time that the stone house Testrup Monastery was built. Here the bishop could live in a stately manner when he stayed in Testrup. Today, only the choir and a little of the nave remain of the large cruciform church, and Testrup Church is a road church that is open every day. Information boards have been set up at the ruins and the church, so you can read more about the extensive history of the place.
