Discover Ernest Zacharevic's new mural in Aalborg: a stunning origami swan folded from an old Danish banknote featuring H.C. Andersen, carrieng a little girl.
After the long journey from Penang (Malaysia), where Lithuanian Ernest Zacharevic currently resides, it’s been wonderful to have the artist here, and we are thrilled to present his new mural.
Zacharevic, known globally for his works featuring children interacting with their surroundings, spent the first week absorbing Aalborg before settling on a theme. The mural, now standing tall above a parking lot in downtown Aalborg, depicts a large origami swan folded from a 1952 Danish banknote featuring H.C. Andersen. A little girl is perched in the swan's wings, as if in a paper nest.
The artist says of the mural:
"I’ve always been fascinated by H.C. Andersen’s tales. When Denmark brought 'The Little Mermaid' to the World Expo in China, I was intrigued by how a public artwork can become such a significant national symbol. So, the opportunity to come to Denmark made me reflect a lot on this."
