"The Sea" is part of five works that beautifully show Frederikshavn's proximity to the sea.

The picture of "The Sea" is adorned with a Henrik Ibsen quote. Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) was a Norwegian playwright and poet. He is considered one of the main authors of The Modern Breakthrough and one of the most important playwrights in European theatre history.

Ibsen wrote about 300 poems and 26 plays. His plays are still current and staged all over the world. After Shakespeare, Ibsen is probably the world's most performed playwright.

The 5 works on Lodstorvet are a gift from the City Foundation to Frederikshavn on the occasion of Frederikshavn's 200th anniversary of the market town.
