Skødevej is written on the road sign. And this road you will find on the Hærvej route and the Coast-to-coast path between Fitting and Bække north of Vejen.
The name Skødevej refers to the nearby Skødebjerggård, which is located approx. 1.5 km from the route to the west towards Vorbasse. Although we most often hear about the war in 1864-1867 and the defeat at Dybøl Mill, there was actually here at Skødebjerg a horsemen's fencing between Danish and Prussian troops with Danish victory. One of the few in that war, and one that we don't often hear about. They had surprised the enemy with the retreat from Dannevirke, and the troops had moved up into Jutland. Here, the Danish dragoon riders had bothered the Prussians. The exercise was to keep the Prussians at bay, so they did NOT find out that Fredericia was a weak fortress. Time was needed. On 29 February, the Prussians' patience was exhausted, the Danish squadron was to be taken prisoner, and the Prussians succeeded in taking the Danes by surprise. Despite this, the equestrian fencing, where you fight man against man, ended with a Danish victory. One of the few in that war, and one that did not change the outcome of the war.
The memorial stone stands at the edge of the forest facing the road between Lunderskov and Vorbasse - a few meters before the parking lot on the north side of the road.
