History of the place:
In ancient times there was a royal castle, Skodborghus Castle, from about the year 1200 to 1814. Among other things, it has been a place where Valdemar Atterdag often stayed. Today you can see a memorial stone where it lay.
The name Skodborg comes from the word "skut"/"tax", and refers to the time when you had to pay tax for the transfer of goods at the old border crossing. It was one of the most important customs offices for the cattle trade on the Ancient Road in the 1400-1500s.
Later, Skodborghus became an ordinary manor house. In 1814 it had become a ruin and in 1932 the local renowned sculptor and ceramist Niels Hansen Jacobsen erected a memorial stone to the place, which now no longer exists.
