Monuments & Sculptures in Rebild Bakker
At the memorial park in Rebild Bakker you will find busts and statues in memory of emigrants, important people for the area and victims during World War II. World War.
"The Family" which shows one of the many family who made the long trip across the ocean to the United States. In this way, it symbolizes the many emigrants, and emigrants have since been of great importance to Rebild Bakker, when the area was bought as a gathering place for the emigrants and their Danish families and friends back home in Denmark. The flyover in Rebild Bakker stands to the left of the entrance to Rebild National Park is a memorial grove associated with the occupation. Here is a memorial stone for the 69 Allied airmen who lost their lives in World War II. During World War II, the Danish Freedom Fighters were thrown weapons and explosives. Bust Jens Toldstrup
Jens Toldstrup succeeded Flemming Juncker as head of the work on weapons reception in Jutland. He was also the leader of the resistance movement in North Jutland, Region 1, in the years 1944 – 1945. Jens Toldstrup died in 1991, and in 2006 he too received a memorial.
It was considered natural to place the memorial at Flyverstenen. On 5 May 2006, the bust was unveiled by Jens Toldstrup's daughter, Tove Uth.
The artist behind the bust is the American sculptor Dennis Smith, who also executed the busts in the Rebild Society's memorial grove.
Bust Victor Borge
Victor Borge was one of those people who had always been a dear and faithful guest and speaker, and therefore it was natural that he was appointed honorary president at the Rebild Festival in 1999. Actually, he was not programmed to entertain, but did it – and even so energetic that you would think it was a young man who had taken the stands.
Victor Borge became an older gentleman and when the year 2000 came to an end – the famous entertainer, comedian and pianist passed away. He was 91 years old. Thus, the Rebild Society lost a close friend.
To honor Victor Borge, the sculptor Dennis Smith has made a beautiful bust of him. The bust was unveiled on July 4, 2001.
Bust Max Henius
Max Henius was not among the founders of the Danish-American Society, whose purpose was to "create a better understanding and closer relations between our compatriots in Denmark and in the United States". However, he attended the founding general meeting in 1906, and quite quickly he was elected president of the society.
It was the Danish-American Society that collected money to buy "a Jutland heath stretch", where Danish-Americans could hold an annual national festival. As mentioned, the choice fell on Rebild Bakker. Read more about Max Henius here.
Bust William Howard Taft
The 27th President of the United States, William Howard Taft (1857-09-08-03-1930) – was President from 1909 to 1913.
As one of the many U.S. presidents who have subsequently sent congratulations and greetings to the participants in the many Rebild celebrations, the newly elected president William Taft was the first to send a greeting to the participants in the Rebild celebration. His greeting was read out to the many participants at the meeting.
He has since been appointed honorary president. The artist Dennis Smith has created the bust of the president, which stands in the Memorial Park and was unveiled in connection with the Rebild Festival on July 4, 2003.
