Green oasis in Vejen Midtby close to shops and cafes. Art and garden for enjoyment around the clock.
The museum square in front of Vejen Art Museum was thoroughly renovated in 2013-14 and has become a recreational green oasis in the city centre.
The floor plan consists of two axes, which the Troll Fountain and the original museum building envisage with four simple lawns framed by a mosaic coating of granite. Along Østergade there is a more wild and organic garden.
Around it are sculptures primarily by Niels Hansen Jacobsen. In 2016, four new and unique gates around the Museum Square were inaugurated. From Østergade you can see Eva Steen Christensen's gate, which leads into Niels Hansen Jacobsen's private entrance door in the museum, and Bjørn Nørgaard's gate, which leads into the Troll Fountain. Facing Øster Allé stands Erik Heide's 14m long grid - with the owls - and from Lindegade you can see Marianne Jørgensen's gate.
In 2024, in connection with Vejen Art Museum's 100th anniversary, Bjørn Nørgaard's sculpture "An angular jar without edges - a truly peculiar angular jar" was given permanent space on the museum square. The ceramic jar was made back in 2004, and is 3.6 m high - and fired in its entirety in a special kiln that was built around the sculpture. There are three sides with round, triangular and square holes putted together by three figures - a man, a woman and a man you define what is.
