Close to the town of Jels in Barsbøl Forest, there is the possibility of Free Tenting according to the guidelines of the Danish Nature Agency.
Here you can pitch one or two 3-person tents for a single night and spend the night in them. It is the Danish Nature Agency that owns the forest and grants the permit.
Barsbøl Forest is located down to Jels Midtsø and there is an "isthmus" along Jels Nedersø, where there is also Free Camping. The forest consists primarily of deciduous trees, especially beech.
