Sønderskov Watermill is an important part of the original manor landscape around Sønderskov Manor. The mill is located at the southern end of the dammed mill lake.
The mill lake receives water from Malt Bæk, which originates northeast of the village of Maltbæk, and flows in a small valley, which is then dammed up with a transverse earth and stone dam. The lake has a high flow and the water is changed approx. every 4 days. The water wheel for the turbine has been an assault wheel at a height of 4 meters and 2.2 meters wide.
It is believed that there has been a mill on the site since the early Renaissance, but we have to go to the 1600s before written sources appear. Hydropower has operated both a grain mill and a stamping mill (for textiles). For a number of years in the 1800s, there was a thriving mill and feed shop on the site. Today, the mill is run as a recreational farm.
