In Gærum Plantation, you will be able to experience a rich wildlife with the opportunity to see both roe deer and bird game.
Gærum Plantation is a large privately owned forest area, with mainly coniferous and beech forest. There are no marked paths in the area, but you can easily find small forest paths and forest roads that will give you a sense of the area's grandeur.
In the middle of the plantation you will find Katsig Mose, which is geologically an old ice age lake, where peat has previously been dug. Since 1985, the area has been protected, and today the lake is only affected by nature. Therefore, there is a rich plant and animal life in the area around Katsig Mose.
Katsig Mose has been used for peat cutting by the nearby farms. If you continue a few hundred meters to the north, you will come to an ancient monument called Tingstedet. It is a stone setting with 13 stones placed in a circle and a stone in the middle. It is probably a burial ground from the Bronze Age, but the place is also believed to have been used later as a thing site for the area's residents.
Gærum Plantation offers exciting and beautiful nature experiences all year round and can be combined with the hiking routes in Åsted Ådal.
