Skovbakken was built in the 1820s to create a green area where you could enjoy the view of the city and the fjord. You can also explore a former beer cellar, where water bats now live.
Skovbakken was landscaped in the 1820s to create a green area where people could enjoy the view of the city and fjord. At Skovbakken you can see forests, tree tops, and even bats in an old beer cellar.
Among with different experiences in nature, Skovbakken also allows you to experience some of the most iconic places in Aalborg.
On the hill, which is 50 metres above sea level, you will find the Aalborg Tower. You can take the elevator to the top which is 105 meters above sea level. Here you will have a beautiful view over the city, the fjord and the southern Vendsyssel. At Skovbakken you will also find the sculpture ”Hunner og Kineserpige”, made by Carl C. Bonnesen. Beneath the Aalborg Tower you will find KUNSTEN, Aalborg’s museum of modern art. Just next to KUNSTEN, you will find Skovdalen’s Outdoor Theatre. In the summer, a variety of different events take place here. The parking lot next to the athletic stadium is the start and end point of a 2,5 km illuminated track that makes it possible to exercise in the dark. Read more about KUNSTEN.
